Winter months found her working on one of many quilt projects for either the church or her family. She was a devoted mother, grandma and sister who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Gerald “Jerry” Meier
Gerald J. Meier, 68 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Patton-Schad Funeral Home and on Friday, Aug. 26, from 9–10 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
Gerald “Jerry” Meier was born in Elysian on Feb. 3, 1948. He was the oldest child of Clarence and Lorraine (Sieben) Meier. His mother proudly wrote “Dad got his little fisherman.” His family lived in Mankato, Glenwood and on a turkey farm. His best childhood memories were living near Fairy Lake in Sauk Centre.
After graduating from high school, Jerry went onto earn a degree in Accounting at St. Cloud Area Vocational College. In 1968, he joined the MN National Guard and served for 14 years. He worked for an accounting firm in St. Cloud and lived there for eight years. He came back to Sauk Centre most weekends and would stay with his best friend Terry Merten’s family. Soon he was coming back one night during the week, this time to spend it with Terry’s sister, Mary Kay! Jerry and Mary Kay were married on Sept. 21, 1974, at St. Paul’s Church in Sauk Centre. Jerry was a spiritual man and his faith was an important part of his life.
They were approached by Gordon Schneekloth, owner of “Froz-N-Foods” in Sauk Centre to move back from St. Cloud to their hometown and start their own accounting business. He felt the town needed one. It all fell into place and in May of 1975, Jerry’s dream of having his own business came true. Meier Accounting began and is still flourishing.
On Sept. 2, 1977, we were blessed with our daughter Kristi. She was always “Daddy’s Little Girl.” She loved to go any place he did, including fishing. They had a very special bond. Our family was completed when our son Jeremy was born on Dec. 1, 1984. He shared Jerry’s joy of plants, rocks, being in a boat on a lake, gardening and cooking. They made salsa, canned tomatoes and froze corn every year. They each developed their own style of cooking and spent lots of time in the kitchen. He couldn’t have been prouder of his kids.
During the next years, life was busy. Jerry was a very hard-working man. He was devoted to all his clients and did his best for them. He cared for them and many have become good friends. Some clients have been with us since we first began. They have been supportive through all the ups and downs life has given us. He was very grateful for their support. Jerry also had the privilege of being asked to join the Sauk Centre Lions Club. He was a dedicated member for 28 years, 23 of those years as treasurer.
In 2007, he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian service and the President’s Appreciation Award. In 2012, he received the Helen Keller Sight Award. He loved being a Lion and took pride in all the good they do for our community. The comradery of the guys was special to him. He also enjoyed being a member of the Sauk Centre Conservation Club and became very involved in their activities the last few years. He had hoped to spend much more time volunteering and to be more active in these clubs in his retirement years.
When his grandchildren came along, a softer side of Jerry appeared. He loved Kenna, Keaton and Cannon with all his heart. By that time we were living in our lake home on Higgin’s Long Lake. It was a great place for them. They built great memories. One tradition Jerry had was to make applesauce from the apples from our trees. Last year all three kids gathered in the kitchen to help. Any time he spent with them brought so much joy and laughter.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Cory Sabrowsky of Sartell; son, Jeremy and his girlfriend, Heidi of Duluth; grandchildren, Kenna, age 9, Keaton, age 6, and Cannon, age 3; sister, Kathy (Hisham) Salaymeh; and brothers, Gary (Mary) Meier and Jeff (Cindy) Meier; brothers-in-law, Terry (Ruth) Merten, Tom (Deb) Merten, B.J. (Lynne) Merten and Phil (Barb) Merten; nieces and nephews and extended family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence and Lorraine (Sieben) Meier and his in-laws, Virgil and Marie Merten.
Any memorials will be donated to the Sauk Centre Lions Club, the Sauk Centre Conservation Club, Quiet Oaks Hospice House and St. Paul’s Building Project. Thank you all for your great support and ongoing prayers.

Howard Majerus
Howard Majerus, age 74 of Osakis, entered his new life on Aug. 26, 2016, from the Galeon in Osakis.
Howard Joseph was born to Leo and Hildegard (Elfering) of Sauk Centre on May 26, 1942, one of 12 children born to this union. Both Leo and Hildegard died young and it was because of that difficulty that he and his siblings learned the importance of hard work and the value of family. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1960 and, after high school, worked in construction and joined the National Guard.
Howard married Janice Lentz on Oct. 13, 1962, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed near her parents’ farm north of Sauk Centre until 1967 when they bought their own farm near West Union.
In addition to farming and raising a family, Howard belonged to the Sauk Centre Flying Club where he took flying lessons from Donald Kummer. He quickly earned his pilot’s license for single engine airplanes and a separate license for flying helicopters; his family has many fun memories of flying in the yellow Piper Cub plane, including landing in his runway, the family’s alfalfa field! Howard’s flying adventures inspired four of his friends to take lessons and become pilots.
After Howard and Janice moved to a home near Lake Osakis, Howard was employed with Pollard’s Mills and Elevator and Osakis Meats & Processing. He also was a school bus driver for the Osakis Public Schools and it was there he developed and patented a seat belt system for school buses. Howard wrapped up his career at Engle Fabrication in Sauk Centre. After becoming disabled in a skid loader accident in 1996, Howard was no longer able to work. Although he lost his mobility, he never lost his smile and sense of humor. He was always ready to make new friends and loved to socialize and be around people.
Famous for his homemade sauerkraut, Howard had a green thumb that he put to good use in his vegetable garden. He also had a knack for small engine repair and often could be found in his shed working on a variety of projects. Other favorite activities included fishing and attending area antique sales. Howard’s grandchildren were delighted that he was the official “daycare” provider for them whenever they didn’t have school. He was a wonderful and kind husband, father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Blessed be his memory.
Howard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice Majerus of Osakis; children, Ronald (Dianne) Majerus of Osakis, Sandra (Greg) Lieser of Forada, Lori (Bob) Harguth of Ham Lake, Marie (Brian) Niehoff, Brenda (Brian Bangtson) Majerus and Sara (Kevin) Uhlenkamp, all of Osakis, and Adam (Amy) Hartle of Fort Sill, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; siblings, Delores (John) Ainali of St. Rosa, Leona (Virgil) Voller of Newport, Evelyn Krebs of Albany, Ben (Karen) Majerus of Sauk Centre, John (Rosanne) Majerus of St. Stephen, Rosemary (Rahn) Mogensen of New Brighten, JoAnn (Ron) Tamm of Albany, Sylvester (Annette) Majerus of St. Stephen, Steven Majerus of Philadelphia, Pa., and Karen (Mark) Gamradt of Sauk Centre; brother-in-law, LaVern “Mooey” (Susan) Beckermann; sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Jim) Fynboh and Doreen Lentz; special family friends, Dave and Susan Crotteau and their children, Darcie, Matt, Jackie and Josh; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents; an infant daughter, Mary; sister, Alvina Beckermann; and best friend, Ron Kollman.
Memorial services for Howard will be Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Osakis with Fr. Dave Petron officiating.
Crossbearer is Mitchell Majerus and lector is Jim Fynboh. Giftbearers are Zachary Harguth, Katie Niehoff, Meredith Lieser and Brody Uhlenkamp. Musicians are Ginger Hetland, Gretchen Majerus, Brody Uhlenkamp and the ICC Funeral Choir. Honorary urnbearers are his grandchildren and special family friends. A reception will be held at the Osakis VFW Post #7902 following the service. The family thanks Horizon Public Health Hospice and the staff at Galeon for their loving care.
Howard’s family thanks you for your kind expressions of sympathy. Please know that although we can’t respond to each kindness offered during this time, your expressions of sympathy are deeply felt and appreciated.

Stephen Walter Bartos was born in Alexandria, on July 19, 1953, the son of John and Clara (Klimek) Bartos. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm and was proud to live there his entire life. Stephen married the love of his life, Doreen Frolek, on Nov. 28, 1987, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria in the midst of an ice storm. The storm could not diminish the warmth of the love and devotion shared that day, and for the next nearly 29 years. Together they enjoyed many outdoor activities. He especially loved trips to Minnesota’s North Shore in the fall, snowmobiling adventures to Upper Michigan and many sunny Sunday afternoon drives with the Mustang. Steve savored life’s simple pleasures such as watching a sunset from the boat on Lake Mary, Mollie B’s polka music, a good movie in front of the fire on a Saturday night or a nap in the sunroom with Lucy Kat on his lap. Steve was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of great faith and took comfort in saying the rosary, especially during his illness. He was a kind and gentle soul and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Our lives were better for having known him.
